Week 7
Only…One. More. Week. to Go. 😢

In a blink, seven weeks of summer have passed, and it’s been another BIG week at CBSC. We’ve had our last BINGO of the summer, the Semiahmoo Cup v WRASA, Ladies’ Golf teeing up at NicoWynd, the Parent & Child Tennis Tournament, the August Bullhead Derby AND our swimming athletes are at Provincials! CBSC is a true playground full of activities, and we are spoiled.

At the end of last week there were 2 notable announcements: Our coveted Volunteer Award, and we announced our incoming President.

First, congratulations to Heather Miller for her continued active volunteerism in the club. Most volunteers simply do not want recognition. They give their time because it brings them Joy. It’s rewarding. Where a job is an exchange of money, ONLY volunteering is an exchange of Joy. There are 4 clear seasons in this person’s volunteering, and each build on the next to ensure that we are always looking our best. Jon Lopes, our Chair of Facilities, has never been to the pool in the off season without seeing this year’s Volunteer of the Year hard at work. This 4-season, year-round volunteer brings the kind of guidance and commitment that any organization would be honoured to have on their team.

Thank you for all that you do, all year-round to make our pool gardens 🌼 🌳 šŸ 🧤 look so beautiful, Heather Miller!

Second, our new President was announced by Sid Landolt, our current president. Thank you to Sid for all the committed work you have done over the last 2 years, and we welcome Morgan Brewster as our new CBSC President! In classic CBSC form, the announcement was revealed in a poem:

ā€œThe Next Oneā€

There’s always one.
One who knows the feeling of CBSC
as more than just a summer club……it’s a way of life.

One who grew up in the pool and on the tanks,
who carries the memory of every whistle blown,
every Bullhorn Bob announcement at the Tanker Swim,
like moments that make up their personal story.

Yes, three generations of commitment
stand behind the one now stepping forward.
This isn’t a passing of the baton;
it’s a continuation of a lineage
that’s been present since 1969.

They embody our values:
• Tradition Keeping,
• Enthusiastic Volunteering,
• Generational Mentoring,
• Lifelong Relationship Building.

So today,
we pass the responsibility,
the continuity,
and the strange mix of traditions and new opportunity,
to someone whose veins run green.

And it is my absolute honour
to welcome the next President
of the Crescent Beach Swim Club…

Mr Morgan Brewster
