Week 8
Sun and Fun, We’re Not Yet Done
We’ve still got a week and a half of fun-filled events to look forward to, including the AGM, now on a new date next Friday, where each committee reports on this summer through poem or other artistic expression.
But first, let’s celebrate what our CBSCers accomplished this past week! CBSC swam, ran, and silly-dove their way to victory over WRASA at the annual Semiahmoo Cup. Ladies Golf was done in style, with no trophy needed for bad behaviour (ahem, Men’s Golf, we’re looking at you). The Sandcastle Contest had a huge turnout, and many fabulous creations were crafted using only items from our treasured beach. At the courts, our kids picked their most athletic family member to play doubles with in the Parent/Grandparent & Child Tournament. And August’s Bullhead Derby showed what lies beneath the pier (hint: it isn’t all fish and crabs). On the competitive side, our Water Polo, Art Swim and Speed Swimming teams headed to Kamloops to compete at Provincials, doing their best and making us proud!
As we head into our final events, we are in need of some volunteers to help things run smoothly. Triathlon needs help along the course, the Gala needs afternoon timing shifts covered, and there’s one Gala BBQ spot up for grabs. If you’re able, email Kerri at volunteer@cbswimclub.ca to sign up.
Get ready for August Fun Days. This month’s theme is Fairy Tales! Dress up as your favourite fairy tale character and join your coaches at your last lesson for candy and surprises!
Swim Fun Days: your last lesson, Thursday, August 20 or Friday, August 21.
Tennis Fun Days: due to the Tennis Tournament, will take place during your last regular lesson, Thursday, August 13, Friday August 14, or Saturday, August 15.

SWIMMING
Kids Triathlon, August 16th 8:30am

Provincials
Congratulations to our CBSC Water Polo teams! The OCat2 team came home with silver, 14U bronze, 16U 4th, and 12U 6th. Way to go Seahorses!
The Competitive Artistic Swim team had a great Provincial meet. They worked hard and stayed committed all summer, and it showed: 35 swimmers on the comp team this year, 23 of them brand new to comp Art swim. CBSC had the largest comp Art swim team at Provincials, and we’re proud of how they represented the club.
Swimming is up next – good luck to all our comp swimmers competing this weekend!
August Tanker Swim, Aug 23rd 9am
The Tanker Swim takes place next Sunday morning. Come cheer them on as the tankers battle the rough waters of the tank, followed by the reward of hot chocolate.
August Gala Sign Up, August 23rd
The Swim Gala takes place at the club pool following the Tanker Swim.
Sign up on the bulletin board outside the Clubhouse during regular office hours. The deadline to compete is this Monday, August 17th at 3pm for all individual races (except Events 53 and 54) and all parent-child relays. Deck entries are allowed only for Adult Relays and the Half Mile Swim, until 11am on Gala Day. Events 53 and 54 close immediately following Event 48.
Full Gala details and rules are posted at the Clubhouse.
Deck food is needed for the August Gala – reach out to Jenny Brown and help us feed all the volunteers who help make Gala run smoothly!

Come out and cheer on the participants of the last Pentathlon of the summer! If you are registered, meet tonight at the lifeguard tower right after Footraces.
Sally’s Shaker, Aug 18th 6-7pm
This fun, free event, also known as the Tennis Court Dance, is open to all kids under 7. Dress up in your favourite party clothes and join Rhys and a special guest on the tennis courts to have a great time dancing, then finish with a treat! Artistic Swimming Show, August 20th 7pm
Our artistic swimmers are putting the final touches on their routines for the much-anticipated Artistic Swimming Show. We extend a warm welcome to all club members to join us in bidding farewell to summer at our annual Synchro Show.
Summer General Meeting, Aug 21st 7:45pm
The Summer AGM will be held on a Friday this year, not after the Art Swim Show. It starts at 7:45pm, shortly after the Footraces. There will be a few chairs, but likely not enough for everyone, so bring your own if you want to guarantee a seat. It’ll be held outside, so dress for the weather, rain or shine. See you there!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Congratulations to Cynthia Springate, this year’s recipient of the CBSC Volunteer Recognition Award, given each year to a volunteer who goes above and beyond.
She’s volunteered with CBSC for more than 14 years: leading our Art Swim program (back when we called it Synchro) from 2018 to 2023, serving as Director of Officials since 2024, taking on Director of Water Polo for BCSSA and volunteer President of the Surrey Water Polo Club along the way.
She’s here before the sun is up and long after everyone else has gone home, making sure our water polo and competitive swim programs run the way they’re supposed to, for her kids, your kids, and a lot of other people’s kids too.
Thank you to Connor Brodie and Sara Turner for another hugely successful Ladies’ Golf event last weekend. Thank you to Sarah Lo for running the Semiahmoo Cup, and congratulations on the win, CBSC! A warm welcome to Jordan Edworthy, who takes over the Semiahmoo Cup next year. Thank you as well to Shannon Davidson for all her support running our wild and wonderful Bullhead Derby.

See you at Footraces and the Pentathlon tonight!
💚
