Week 6
Meets, Cheers and Volunteers!
July’s Gala was CBSC at its best – kids trying their hardest and everyone pitching in to make it happen. That same spirit carried into Regionals this week, where our Art Swim and Water Polo teams competed at Fraser South. Nice work, Seahorses! Now it’s Swim’s turn to hit the water this weekend – good luck out there!
A couple of reminders: Monday is BC Day, but regular lessons are still running. And we’ve added a new section to the eSeahorse this week, Volunteer Spotlight, where we celebrate some of the people who make all of this possible. Enjoy the long weekend!

SWIMMING
Water Polo Alumni Game, Aug 5th 7-9pm
Calling all water polo alumni! If you’ve ever played water polo for CBSC or coached it, join us for a fun scrimmage against our U16 team. Everyone’s welcome to come cheer on your old coaches as they face off.
Kids Triathlon, August 16th at 8:30am
Registration opens August 4th and closes August 14th for age groups 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15 (age as of Dec. 31st). Head to ActiveNet on Aug 4th to sign up for this fun, community favourite. The cost is $20 and space is limited, so put a reminder in your calendar! Questions, or interested in volunteering as a course marshal? Email triathlon@cbswimclub.ca
Swim Reminders
Did you swim at the July Gala? Top 8 finishers get a CBSC Gala ribbon, and yours might be waiting for you in the Clubhouse. Come grab it!

SAILING
Teen Paddle
Born 2014 or earlier? On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings this summer, teens can hang out with friends and paddleboard on the water. After a short lesson, head back to the CBSC Tank for a snack while watching the sunset. Stop by the office to book your spot. Boards are available to rent, or bring your own.
Free Sail and Paddle
Come enjoy the water on a sailboat or SUP every Saturday and Sunday, 12-4pm. No pre-registration required, just bring your mandatory life jacket.
To keep things safe, Free Paddle is open to experienced adults and youth who’ve completed Paddle Board Orientation or lessons. For sailing, experienced sailors and graduates of Family Sail, Sail Orientation, or Sail Green can take a boat out on their own. Those without prior sailing experience can go out with one of our coaches.
EVENTS & HAPPENINGS
Pentathlon, July 31st
If you are registered, meet tonight at the lifeguard tower right after Footraces. The next Pentathlon is August 14th and is free for ages 8 – 12 (must be 8 as of August 31). Must be a strong swimmer and comfortable in the ocean. Be prepared to swim, run, and get messy, depending on the theme of the day!
Pre-registration is required, through ActiveNet or the office. The deadline for registering is 2 pm on Thursday, August 13th. Registration opens online 9 am the Saturday after the previous Pentathlon, and in the office the following Monday.
BINGO, Friday, August 7
August BINGO is coming to Alexandra Park! Bring a blanket, and don’t forget cash for the concession and bingo cards ($2 each).
With the sun setting a little earlier now, we’ll be kicking things off right after Footraces. Come early, grab a good spot, and get ready for some awesome bingo puns!
Semiahmoo Cup, August 8th 9am
Cheer on CBSC as we race the WRASA Killer Guppies, a fun rivalry that dates back to 1922. A few spots are still open, sign up here. (If all spots fill, you’ll be added to the waitlist and contacted if one becomes available.)
Sandcastle Contest, August 9
One of the most fun family events of the summer is back! Grab your shovels, round up your best ideas, and join us on the front beach just north of the end of Beecher Street.
9:30 am – Registration (onsite)
10:00 am – Digging begins
11:30 am – Awards
All ages, all skill levels – from the ambitious multi-tower fortress to the very enthusiastic pile of sand. We’ll see you on the beach!
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Seahorse Dances Wrap Up in Style
Over 300 CBSC kids danced the night away at our annual Seahorse Dances a couple of weeks ago. The final dance ended with a bang – thunder, that is – and the kids weren’t the only bright lights that night. Huge thanks to Erica, Lara and Jackie for wrangling kids, rockin’ music, candy, slushies, and a lightning storm to finish it off!
Big Thanks!
A huge thank you to the volunteers who power our CBSC-hosted events — the timers, stroke and turn judges, BBQ grillers and concession leads who kept our B meet, Water Polo meet and July Gala running so smoothly. We couldn’t do it without you!

REMINDERS
We’re collecting short video clips of kids having fun at CBSC. If you’ve got footage you’re happy to have shared on social media, send it to communications@cbswimclub.ca.
See you at Footraces and the Pentathlon tonight!
