Week 7 – Heading into the Last Week!

Happy second to last Friday of our 2022 CBSC summer! As we head into the last week, CBSC always offers a full calendar of traditional and exciting end of summer events. If it feels like there is a lot to do and so little time left, you’d be right on. So stay hydrated, well-rested, and rest assured lots of candy will be served.

Volunteerism is the backbone of our club and has been an integral part of CBSC since 1918. It’s part of the magic of CBSC, and our club members make it all happen. Congratulations 👏 to Maidra McGunigal for winning this year’s Volunteer of the Year Award for her rockstar work for the club – tirelessly volunteering for many years (and many hours) in various roles: (started Volleyball up and running for 2 years, Water Polo for 3 years, Swim Chair for 3 years and now 3 years as hiring chair with swimming. Always with a spirit of humility and a smile. It was a tough decision for the board, as there were several nominees who were seriously considered – it’s not an easy task to single out one person – a very lucky problem to have, as we have many committed volunteers in our club! Thank you Maidra!

The Theme for August is HEROES! Dress up as your favourite Hero and join the coaches in a fun filled day of costume, candy and more!! Swim Fun Day will be on your last lesson day of August. For most Swim Programs, that will be Friday, August 26.

The August Swim Gala takes place at the Club pool and begins immediately following the Tanker Swim.

Deadline for sign-up is 3pm on Monday, August 22. Deck entries will NOT be allowed for individual races but will be allowed for relays. Sign up NOW on the bulletin board outside the Clubhouse.

You are eligible to participate in the Gala if you have attended at least one week of lessons in the four weeks prior to the Gala or have attended three weeks of lessons over the summer. Artistic Swimming, Competitive Swimming, Water Polo, Triathlon, Lifesaving, Junior Lifeguard Club, and Swim Lessons all qualify.

Completion of a Tanker swim is preferable before the first Gala.
Full details and rules are posted at the Clubhouse.

Great action on the courts this past weekend from all the participants of the Parent/Grandparent/Legal Guardian and Child tournament. Thanks to everyone that came out!

August Tournament Week
Next week is August tournament week for the kids, which means there are no regular scheduled lessons (Note: Red ball 4/5 and Adult lessons are on as normal). Instead, children can sign up for three (3) tournament events. The schedule and sign up sheets are in the Pro Shop.

Here are some key points to note about August tournament week:

  • Children play two events in their ball colour (skill level that they have been playing all summer in their lessons)
  • Each child is permitted to play one event of their choice (either play up a level for the challenge, or play their age for a chance at the trophy)

For example: a 10 year old registered in green ball can play in one orange ball event and potentially win the *10 and under trophy (*age as of Dec. 31, 2022). Their other two events would be green ball, since they are in green ball lessons. These would be their three tournament events for the last week of August.

Remember to check the schedule and sign up in the binders at the Pro Shop for your child’s events by Friday, August 19. If there are any questions please ask Head Coach Asher.

Bingo Gives Back!
We’re doing it again. Bring non-perishable food items to Bingo to help our neighbours at Alexandra House. Alexandra House’s Seeds of Change program ( prepares boxes every Tuesday for vulnerable families in our area, comprised of donated non-perishables and canned goods as well as produce grown in their community gardens at Sullivan park.

Let’s outdo what we donated in July!

Items to consider:
Protein (such as canned tuna)
Infant formula
Personal Hygiene products

Please, NO expired items!

Lastly, speaking of volunteers. Ever wonder who has been keeping all of the flowers beautiful around the facilities? A small but mighty group of volunteers come by and weed and water the plants. Art Van Wart has been helping around the Club for decades (and then some). Art and Izzy buy plants and water them each year. Thank you for your service!

See you tonight – 7:00pm at Footraces, followed by B-I-N-G-O at Alexandra Park.
